Have you ever had someone tell you that you are doing a good job? I have! Have you ever had someone tell you to be better? That you are doing good, you might even be doing great but you can still be better? Oh hi again, I have had that too.
Was your ego bruised or were you able to accept that you actually could be better? Did you stay where you were, comfortable and scared or did you try and be better, uncomfortable but still scared? Did you complain to someone that this person said you sucked and now you are gossiping about their bluntness or did you accept what they said as constructive critiscim?
Don’t get me wrong friends, I think it is extremely important to have a team of supporters behind you. The ones that always have your back. People who will tell you, “you’re killin’ it”. They are your hype, a driving force of reassurance (we all need it at times). I get it don’t worry. But …
More importantly than having the hype, having that all-the-time-support we need a person to tell us to be better. Yes I said it. You need someone to tell you that you are your ideas are good, but they can be better. That your mission is incredible, but you’re not quite fulfilling it. That you are a a rockstar, but you could be a badass.
This person is not there to tell you that you are your ideas suck. They aren’t there to say what you’re doing is wrong, dumb or not of value. That’s what the haters are there for (because there will always be the haters, we all have em). This person simply says be better. This person is your accountability. They should be your go to person because it’s atleast one person who isn’t fake (amen). It’s one person who genuinely cares about the evolution of you and ultimately your craft.
They are saying “Hey, what you are doing is good, and like I said before it might even be great. Good for you friend. You’re doing a really good job right now but I know you can do more. I want you to do more because the world needs you to do more and hands down I know YOU want to do more.” more more more ….
They don’t do or say this to insult you, in fact it’s quite the opposite. This person does it to light a fire under your ass, don’t fart under the pressure you may explode. These two simple words “be better” are to give you the ultimate inspiration to evolve.
Sometimes our feelings get the best of us. We think that this person is attacking our mission (the drama) when in reality they are the one person who believes in our mission almost as much as we do. They see the full potential and they want it to come to fruition. Our feelings make us feel hurt by truth, but this truth isn’t even a bad thing. It’s how we perceive it. It’s the truth that you say you want to do great things but in order to do those things you have to be better.
“Be better” means —
Talking less and then doing more.
Not complaining but problem solving.
Educating yourself and then teaching others.
There’s being good and then there’s being great. Be great.
Growing and then evolving — you, your mission and your craft.
Looking at fear, accepting it and then conquering it.
Overall, just be better.
