Who is sitting in their seat right now waiting for 2019 to hit so you can write down all your new goals? All these aspirations you have come up with that because it’s the end of the year you feel like you have to wait till the actually new year hits. So you can say “new year, new me.” So you can cleanse your soul of all the things your body, mind, and heart have been through this year. So you can forget the past and move into the future?
Okay, okay … I am guilty. Part of me is very much like let’s go back to my goals from last year and criss cross out the stuff I hit and cheers to it or sadly look at the things that I didn’t hit and move the heck on (and maybe shed a quick tear). The thing about New Year’s resolutions is they typically only last for a short period of time because it’s not a habit and eventually the high of New Year’s goes away which means the goals go away too …
Check this out … it takes 21 days to create a habit. 21 days of self-talk. 21 days of patience. 21 days of bargaining. Just 21 days.
If you start now (like right this moment, or when you finish reading this post), the last 21 days of December, you will have created habits to actually help you hit the goals you wanted to hit in the New Year. Listen to me, (or read me) if you start today … in 21 days you’re either going to be blown away by how much you improved or blown away by the regret that just hit you in the face because you now have to start over.
If 21 days feels to long … think three weeks … if that feels too long, think that it’s less than a month. Whatever you gotta do to get you through this and make a positive change in your days.
Maybe you want to break a habit or maybe you want to start one? Whatever it is just decide and do it … for the next 21 days of course. The thing is, I’m here for you. I am doing this too. This is some 30 day challenge, not 90 and definitely not 100 … I’m asking for 21 days folks.
I vow that the next 21 days … I am going to do something for me — mentally, physically and emotionally.
I am going to set an intention everyday so I can stray away from the things that I have been struggling with most recently.
I am going to write. every. single. day. No matter how long or short. I am going to write.
I am going to acknowledge my small victories and actually embrace them in their tiny glory.
Maybe you want to stop biting your nails or have better personal hygiene. You want to care more about looking good so you feel good (this actually works). I am a total sweatpants, no makeup and beanie type of girl. I am all about comfort so this habit is something I seriously had to work on … getting ready and not looking homeless. With that said, sometimes it' feels tedious but I feel so much better about myself. Even if it’s still no makeup, a beanie and some ripped jeans i’ll now try to throw on some jewelry or a lip color and boom hygiene people — I still bite my nails though.
Maybe you want to start reading more books or listening to podcasts. You want to stimulate your brain more and educate yourself on the things that interest you the most. I am already a book nerd I don’t need that any more of a habit because I won’t get anything else done BUT listening to podcasts is a habit I have totally tried to create even if it’s a podcast of girls talking about their one night stands or murder mysteries.
Maybe you want to stop drinking and partying. Sure, this is fun, been there. But it gets old. Maybe it’s time to trade in some of the vodka water for just water or atleast no drinking during the week.
Maybe you want to start eating more vegetables or working out. Vegetables suck but hey they are good for us and working out (for me at least) is so refreshing when you are finished (minus the smell of your under arms). I am not a veggie gal. I like corn (which has no nutritional value) and cauliflower tots so when I say I have to force some veggies in me I mean it. I’m working on it …
Maybe you want to stop beating yourself up or envying other people’s lives. Delete people off your social media and out of your life that suck up your time and good energy. If every time you look at someones Instagram post and you think “man they are so lucky I wish I had that …” BUHHH BYEEEE, delete. If every time you are around someone and they are fun suckers and make you feel little, buh bye, delete their text messages and don’t send another one. If every time you look in the mirror you make a disgusted look at yourself, tell yourself your freaking beautiful (and mean it).
I don’t know what it is exactly that you want to make or break but I am saying just start. Pull off the band aid quickly and start. Let’s start right now. Like right freaking now people. The last 21 days of December. The last 21 days of the 2018. The first 21 days to a better feeling you.
